cyber freedom of speech in kuwait

some people talked about a blog that got banned here in kuwait by all kuwait ISP

I went around and started checking , and i couldn’t enter it from my ISP and i tried another ISP , same result

so i said to my self , why not try to check on smartfilter URL checker
since its the software some of our ISP use here in kuwait Qualitynet

and what i got ?

like woha ! the blog did suck , but it had it funny moments , i thought it was bad ! but not that bad !
and not only the page is going to get blocked in kuwait , but by all ISP or companies or houses that use
smartfilter products ( which i was told there are a lot )

to compare i had one of the blogs i link to checked , brother Q
it came out as Personal Pages
( Zaydoun with all his political talk still came out as personal pages also )

do you think the ISP had the right to report him as such ?

where do you draw the line ? porn ? flashing breasts ? hair ? uncovered face ?

( i’m not linking to the blog that was banned , he seem to have removed it , but its still in the database )

Arab comics sudden intrest

It seem that the arab comic market is going to jump big time

First there is the first arab comic books , not a translated one but new heros and stories
heroes like Rakan, Lone Warrior and Aya, Princess od Darkness
from AK comics

And now the US Army is creating its own comic , and its for arabs !
as seen in this Business Opportunities page ( for contracts )
( why can’t we have something like that in kuwait ? )

The series will be based on the security forces, military and police, in the near future in the Middle East in cooperation with the Ministries of Interior of some of those countries. The comic series will be subject to change based on initial focus group testing of a prototype comic. If the subject matter for a specific comic does not do well in its intended focus group then it may be dropped and/or a new basis for the comic will be selected. There may be opportunities for this series to continue and additional comic series to be developed next year based on feedback from the first series.

The comic is being produced by US Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

Fort Bragg is home to the army’s 4th Psychological Operations Group, known as “psy-op warriors”, whose weaponry includes radio transmitters, loudspeakers and leaflets.

Do you know kuwait National Anthem ?

I remember back in school , when the Kuwait National Anthem play during the morning that most student didn’t know the other lyrics for the National Anthem , everyone just knew the first verse , since it was the easiest , but if you asked anyone about the rest , they don’t remember it .

For a time I had it memorized, my memory of it has missing words here and there.

Anyway I was reading news on the net here and there and found this

About 61 percent of Americans, or nearly two out of three, don’t know all of the words to the 74-year-old national anthem, according to a recent Harris Interactive survey. So the 3-year educational initiative aims to reteach Americans the “Star-Spangled Banner” and get us all singing it again — proud, aloud and in public.

Wow, that a big percentage, I wonder if we have similar or even bigger (I would estimate it around 20% not know if you ask about the first verse only, 85% if you as for the full one)

What got my attention in that article isn’t the percentage, what got me was that DaimlerChrysler, was funding the project, why can’t private sector in Kuwait to do his share in Kuwait? Do we have to impose Tax code and have deduction in it so they start throwing money on projects like this?

Then the National Guard Leader Sheik Salem Al-Ali announced his donation of 30 million Kuwaiti dinnar for the welfare of the people inside the family (as in Al-Sabah family) to cover the period of 3 year, and the establishment of a new organization to take care of war victims families in Kuwait and that he is going to donate 10 million Kuwaiti dinnar for it ”

I think stuff like that shouldn’t be in newspaper in the first place, and he shouldn’t have talked about it!
My god, 30 million for the welfare? Is there Sabah family on welfare in the first place? And 30 million? Is your standard really that high? Lets say they are 5 thousand (and I don’t think they are)
That means each year its 10 million on 5 thousand, that’s 2000 a year per person aka 166 KD per month

Yeah that may seem little, but think about it, who doesn’t have a job in Kuwait? Most Kuwaiti’s get employed by the government in the end to appease the mass
And what I estimated the number to be include ministers and their families
And also Salem Al-Ail family.

oh well , i’ll stop before i go far and get Secret service on my ass
